In 1798, Ireland was the scene of three separate rebellions: the people's rising in Wexford, the revolt of the United Irishmen in Ulster and the invasion of the French in the West. Although influenced by American radicalism and French Jacobinism, the bloody and terrible events of that year were unique in Europe and never repeated on the same scale in Irish history. This is a collection of various eyewitness accounts of the risings. Some may be familiar to readers, others are obscure and unknown. They give an insight into what it was like to live through or participate in the events of 1798.
